Sit down (ok you probably are sitting already) and let me tell you about this really really fun book I've recently read. It's called Maximum Ride, Saving the World and Other Extreme Sports by James Patterson. It's exciting, interesting, fun, action packed, funny, sarcastic, and witty and those are just the adjectives. The nouns and verbs are pretty good too.
I knew this book was going to win me when I read this in Chapter 2:
"Anyone who's up to speed on the Adventures of Amazing Max and Her Flying, Fun-Loving Cohorts, you can skip this next page or so.
those of you who picked up this book cold, even though it's clearly
*part three* of a series, well, get with the program, people! I can't spend two days to get you caught up on everything!"
Get the picture on how this goes?
This book *is* part three of the Maximum Ride series, a series that Mr. Patterson has written for the *young adult* audience. It's a lot smarter than a lot of the YA books I've read, and a lot more fun. It has more plot twists and turns than most rollercoasters at Six Flags.
Oh yes, what is it about? It's about 405 pages. (ha!). No it's about a group of kids that have had their DNA combined with that of birds. They fly, they have bird characteristics but they look human, and the scientists that engineered them want them dead. Isn't that always the way?
I wasn't 100% sure that this was going to be the kind of thing that would hold my attention, but let me tell you, it did and then some! This is really an engaging book and honestly a pretty quick read. It took me 2 days, but that's only because the children expected me to take care of them *and* I had that nasty headache. Without those factors I would have finished it the same day I started it. I actually didn't want to put it down.
I highly recommend this book for adults, young adults, even pre-teens. Some of the plot twists are predictable but most are not. I talked so much about this, and obviously enjoyed it so much that my 10 year old (girl) is reading (and loving) it now, my 15 year old (boy) wants to read it next and even my husband has expressed interest in it.
And it even mentions Harry Potter.
So there you have it. Go! Read! Enjoy!
