Book review! "The Double-Daring book for Girls"

by Andrea J. Buchanan and Miriam Peskowitz.

First and foremost, this is a fun book, full of neat facts and things to do. Secondly it's a great boredom buster; summer hasn't even started yet and I've got whiny kids going "what is there to dooooooooooooooo?". Ha! Now I have some suggestions (other than the time-worn and unheeded "you could always clean your room!")

Initially the intent of this review was to challenge a bunch of people to one of the activities in the book, but I was/am blessed with something akin to food poisoning or something this week and so what you're getting is a challenge between my kids. Because I can't muster up enough energy to do anything else.

The challenge we picked is building rock towers, featured on page 9. I like the zen quality of it, you have to be still, calm and focused to get these puppies built. Very good for kids, and I explained to mine that building these can be a great stress breaker for the very fact that you have to *focus*. And as my daughter put it "I have to use a different part of my brain to do this". Always a bonus. Not to mention the fact that they had to work on their patience level as their two year old brother repeatedly banged, shook and climbed on the table they were attempting to build upon.

We were going for "who can build the highest tower?" but that devolved into "who can keep their tower from falling over?" and that devolved into "who can refrain from throwing rocks at each other?". All in all though, the kids enjoyed it and we're all looking forward to trying more of the activities as summer progresses.

Leah:

final result: awesome!

Ben:

hoping it stays steady; everytime I aimed the camera at his tower, it fell down:

YES!

Ian gets in on the act:

his tower (with MUCH help from Mom)(I don't know where the evil grin comes from)

finally deciding that a rock lineup was much easier:

Now then: lets see how high you can build YOUR tower!
